The number beside each metric is the gap to the league average across the 583 batters with enough tracked swings to measure. This hitter has 685.
A description, not a prediction. Swing type showed no effect on which pitchers a batter handles, so the model does not use it.
Swing shape is a continuum rather than four natural types, so treat the label as a neighbourhood, not a box.
Each metric over the last 30 games against the same player's own last 100, so it reads as “is he himself right now” rather than “is he good”.
A metric is flagged only when it has moved further than three quarters of hitters do. The bar differs enormously by metric — bat speed rarely shifts more than 1%, while barrel rate routinely swings 20% — so one shared cutoff would flag everybody or nobody.
Movement in EITHER direction is the signal. Batters swinging faster than their own baseline hit for less power almost as often as those swinging slower, so this says “moved”, not “declined”.
Descriptive. These were trained into a candidate model and the paired test found no difference on any of 16 comparisons, so the live model does not use them.
Each bar is where this player sits against everyone else over the same stretch of games. 100 is the best in baseball, 50 is average. Right is always better: where a low number is the good one — chase rate, strikeout rate — the ranking is flipped and the row carries a ↓. The figure on the right is always the actual value, never the flipped one.
The dates beside the title are the calendar span those games cover. “Last 30 games” is not “the last 30 days”; for a player who has been out, the window can end months ago.
The league pool counts only players with at least 2 at-bats per game in the window who also appeared in the 10 days before the as-of date. Without the second rule the pool fills with frozen snapshots of the injured and retired, and every percentile reads high.
The league is read on the same date as the player, so a window ending in May is ranked against other windows ending in May rather than against today's league.

Some dots sit outside the foul lines, and that is real. The coordinate Statcast records is where a ball was FIELDED, not where it landed. A ground ball down the line rolls into the corner and gets picked up in foul ground, so it plots there — one of Ben Rice's doubles travelled 25 feet off the bat and was retrieved 265 feet away at 51 degrees. About 4% of hits land outside the lines for this reason.
The window counts his own games, not calendar days, so a starting pitcher who works every fifth day is not compared against an everyday batter over the same stretch of the calendar.
The window matches the stat table below: it counts the same games and uses the same trailing convention, so the totals here reconcile with the XBH and HR columns there.
Only hits appear — outs are not plotted. A handful of hits have no tracked landing location (86 across two seasons); they cannot be drawn, so they are counted in the header as “not located” rather than quietly dropped.

Expected stats say what a batted ball was WORTH, from its exit velocity and launch angle, regardless of whether it found a glove. A 105 mph line drive caught at the track and a bloop that fell in are the same result in a box score and opposite results here.
xBA is blank on strikeouts and walks because there is no batted ball to judge. xwOBA is not: it carries the standard value of a walk (about .690) or a strikeout (zero), so it can be read across every row.
The pitch shown is the one that ENDED the at-bat, not the whole sequence. Location is where the ball was fielded — see the spray chart's note on why some of those are in foul ground.
